The Real Story Behind “Another Story”

Greetings Everyone!

Check out my debut video for my single “Another Story” on my debut project “WALK WITH ME” dropping this Summer.

“Another Story” is a very raw and stripped down acoustic track that explores how people sometimes struggle with their inner feelings and weaknesses, while trying to remain strong on the outside. “Another Story” addresses the day to day struggles of trying to balance the desire to achieve success while simultaneously attempting to maintain a sense of self. Along the way we learn how lonely the journey can be even though it’s a road that is traveled by many. The song was purposely designed to be musically organic to accurately represent this vulnerability.

“Another Story” is particularly dear to my heart because it is a musical and lyrical collaboration with my first cousin Chima “Golden Axe” Nwoga, whom I was blessed to vibe with in Nigeria, West Africa, in November of 2008. I remember falling in love with the melody instantly when Chima would play it on his guitar. Chima is a talented and accomplished Composer/Producer and Performer, (in Nigeria & the UK), who graces “Another Story” with his amazing acoustic style. We have been talking about collaborating for a while and we finally got a chance to work on four tracks for my debut album. I am so excited to officially share our work with you in a few weeks.

“Another Story” is a song that anyone who is striving for a specific goal in life can identify with and I hope that you enjoy it’s purity and overall REALNESS. Feel free to leave your comments and feedback on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0WF1FsWYSg

Welcome to rachelwalkeronline.com

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to rachelwalkeronline.com.

With this site I want to offer you an opportunity to get to know me as an artist and writer. A lot of hard work and thoughtfulness went into the creation of this site and I am so excited to introduce it to you.

The past year has been both extremely challenging and rewarding at the same time. The journey of defining myself as an artist has been one of self-discovery, unwavering courage and fierce determination.

I began singing in girl groups, which eventually led me to recording hooks for various hip hop artists in Brooklyn, NY. Like a sponge, I absorbed so many song writing, recording and engineering techniques along the way. I’ll never forget the day that I wrote my first song and what I felt like while listening to the playback. I was fascinated with the process and what it was able to draw out of me. I guess you could say that from that point on, I was hooked, and no matter how difficult the learning process would eventually become, I was compelled to continue learning, growing and honing my skills. Through the wire, I have used my experiences to put together a collection of songs that best represents the human spirit.  I have been reminded this past year how important it is to stay true to self and follow my heart.

I was fortunate to travel to Nigeria, West Africa in November 2008 to participate in my cousin’s wedding in the Imo Village. I was far from the hustle and bustle of New York City life and everything that came with it (my job, bills, my studio etc.). I woke up at 5:00 AM on Tuesday, November 4th (Election Day), voted at 6:00 AM, and boarded a plane to Amsterdam before the results of the election were even announced. I couldn’t even believe that I was on my way to the motherland. But, during my two week stay, I gained a great deal of perspective. Surrounded by the love of my family as well as the overwhelming beauty and organic landscape of the village, something came over me. My mind was clear and my body was relaxed. It was my first trip to Nigeria and thanks to the hospitality and love of my family and friends; I was treated like a native Ebo statesman. My cousin’s wedding was beautiful and it reminded me of why I continue to endure all the challenges that come my way. Love. I genuinely love creating music and while the pressure of being successful in the industry is constant, having the creative freedom and ability to do things on my own terms has ultimately sculpted me into the well-rounded artist that I am today.

Writing songs is like creating a fantasy or writing an entry in your diary. It can express your hopes, dreams, and desires. It can reveal your thoughts and expose your reality. It most certainly challenges you to dig deep inside yourself and the world around you for insight and inspiration. There is a quote that I use in my email signature that reminds me everyday why I have chosen to take this path in music:

“To expose feeling is to risk exposing your true self. To place your ideas, your dreams before crows is to risk their loss. To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.” – Author Unknown

Using this quote as my mantra, I persevere on, and it is my passion that has led me to the creation of my debut album, “Walk With Me”. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with an amazing Engineer and talented producers, who have been extremely supportive of my efforts. I look forward to introducing them and our amazing collaborations within the next few months.  I am also grateful to those local artists, producers and engineers who worked with me in the early days and took the time to teach me what I know and put into action every time I pick up the mic.

“Walk With Me” has truly been a labor of love and has taken a long time to pull together. I want to thank my family, friends, music lovers and my business associates for all of your support and for being so patient. I promise that it will be worth the wait.

Bless,

Rachel
